The last 24th of may the first MEXWII Mexican Women Inventors & Innovation Network Awards and exhibit took place in Mexico City. I was there as a nominee with a project named “Customizable personal organization and productivity system”
This event was originated in the U.K. by Bola Olabisi, founder of Global Women Inventors & Innovators Network GWIIN with the mission of promoting and supporting women inventors. Now it has arrived to Mexico with the effort of Marina Larios founder of Inova Consultancy and the support of The National Women Institute, CONACYT, IMPI y and the Mexican Economy Government.
First I would like to acknowledge my friend and also designer Monica Peon, whose talent and help made this presentation possible.
The whole experience can be described as Inspirational, I was practically surrounded by entrepeneurs, scientist and amazing women of every age and background. There was a great variation of projects, from the very scientific ones like a method for detecting “amebas” amebas” or a system to subtract substances from plants, or a cookie art kit, or a mobile bus-art gallery.
Radio and T.V. media were present and we event had our 10 minutes of fame at the evening news. Two conferences went on, one particularly caught my attention, that talked about the importance of patents and copy-write our ideas. We also received information on how to finance the projects and a lot of industry contacts.
I don’t know exactly how many projects were submitted for the awards, but we were 60 nominees from whom 25 were chosen to go to a conference in India. My project particularly did not get that far but I was really excited because it was a great opportunity, besides the recognition, we could share different points of view and received expert criticism. It was an honor to belong to this privileged group. I also realized how important it is to believe in your own ideas and creativity, even if they seem to common. On the other side I was happy to show that design is a problem solving discipline which goes tied with the idea of innovation, and that Design should be recognized not so much as a scientific discipline but, as an Innovative one.
I should say that I was exhausted at the end, because I practically didn’t sleep for two days, but it was all worth it and I am ready to go on with this project.
Finally, I would like to thank all the people that encourage my participation, wherever they were at that moment I could feel tour good intentions
Thank you and see you soon.
Nora
